I can give some information on this bug, because now i got into this.
The mouse pointer acceleration seems that does affect the plugged in usb-mouse,
in the mean time the touchpad reacts normally.
I use Ubuntu 8.04.1 (x86_64), hardy with Gnome 2.22.3
