Thank you Neil, I shall be moving the document from my Linux machine to this Windows one shortly, via Google Docs, and will take a look again then. It might be possible to copy and paste the offending piece.
The impression I have is that this is not a bug, but probably a bufffer problem with an old machine. It has dumped strange things (email copy and paste material) in the document, from time to time. I now restart the machine, before beginning work with Open Office, hoping that will clear all buffers. I use both Evolution and Thunderbird on that machine. Robert Francis.
