I experienced the same problem with a Nikon CoolPix L2. Setting the
permissions in the udev configuration solved it. The id of the devices
is as follows:

ID 04b0:0148 Nikon Corp.

The camera worked fine on Dapper. I guess there's a particular reason
why the default permissions were changed (or so I assume before further
research) but it seems to cause some problems. This shouldn't really
happen since people who aren't very savvy at searching for solutions to
such issues are left in the cold.
