I did some tests and the problem seems related to the fact the vob is not in the format that devede expects to be a dvd compliant file. In fact you have to extract audio and video streams, from dvd, separately (I did this with mplayer from command line) and the authoring process runs ok. So the bug could be marked as invalid but I would let it "open" because the devede error message is not appropriate (I found a lot of people in some forums that had this problem and didn't find a solution)
