OK, I tested with an Logitech USB mouse from my desktop and it works
flawlessly on the hardy laptop. So this is related to the Agiler mouse.
The mouse works occasionally when I left it attached for long period of
times and in fact I'm using it right now on the hardy laptop. Still no
useful entries in logs, though..

The mouse has also a keyboard interface as there's a proprietary
vertical scroll button (works only with MS Excel or something like
that), so could that cause the mouse to malfunction?
