If you don't have /dev/kvm, then your CPU does not have the
"Virtualization Technology" extensions.

On an intrepid machine, you can check this by running:
 $ kvm-ok

Otherwise:
 $ egrep "flags.*:.*(svm|vmx)" /proc/cpuinfo
