I tried out the 2008.10 Alpha 6 version of Ubuntu (x86) with a computer
that has a Geforce 6600 LE 256mb attached to a Benq T241W 1920x1200 LCD.
This system works fine under Vista.
When I tried the "live mode" (no installation), it would boot linux,
show the graphical Ubuntu spash screen with the graphical slider working
fine, and would switch to the text mode to display progress after 30-60
seconds, it displayed "starting gnome display manager, then the OK'
prompt, and then shortly afterwards as it continuted its boot sequence
it started to malfuction... the display turned into flashing green and
pink vertical lines.
I rebooted, and selected the "Safe Mode" graphical option and tried to
launch the ubuntu setup, it behaved in exactly the same way ( displayed
the ubuntu splash screen with graphical slider/progress bar, got to a
full page of text mode messages, and went crazy after initializing the
gnome display manager.
The same live cd works fine in my laptop, and i can get to the gnome
desktop window normally.
