I must agree to that - because I'm one of them :) I've got the X1350 and
it's affected by the same bug. I cannot understand why Ubuntu took the
new Xorg version into the new release when it was clear that fglrx would
not be working anymore.

I'd go with any alternative solution as long as I can use fglrx (and
therefore compiz - which IMHO is _required_ to use gnome effectively).
So either a older Xorg Version or a ugly Xorg-fglrx patch to make get
the old driver running.

So - I think this question came before - is there anyone "listening" who
has in-depth knowlege and could determine the exact problem(s) in detail
and what effort it would take to make an Xorg-patch (as opposed to
providing an earlier Xorg version for fglrx users)

I'm getting tired of not being able to use compiz and thinking of downgrading :(
