Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-trident
My Toshiba Portege R100's BIOS lets the user set LCD+CRT mirroring. This
works fine, mirroring startup messages, etc, right through to when X
starts up, at which point the CRT output is lost. CRT out is lost if one
does a VC switch out of and back into X also, when X is already running.
Under Hardy, I was able to use "toshset -video both" to turn on LCD+CRT
mirroring in X. As noted by others against the toshset package, this
utility is now totally broken post upgrade to Intrepid, since Toshiba
ACPI and custom stuff appears to have dropped out of the
2.6.27-4-generic kernel (suspend and Toshiba fn keys have also stopped
working for me, and hibernate decided to break too, just for good
measure, but these are other stories...).
However, the mirroring that toshset enabled was useless: it produced a
garbled display: the left-hand quarter or so of the screen gets repeated
across the other three quarters (not sure of the exact repeat number
sorry - could be five... although that would be weird). This messed up
display was correctly mirrored on LCD+CRT though. As noted above, a VC
switch would restore the sanity of the display, but dropped the CRT
output.
I think that I remember fnfxd under a previous Debian etch install
correctly supporting the LCD/CRT/both fn key.
