I'm using kernel 2.6.24-19-generic (Hardy) and I'm still being hit by
the same problem. It looks like a race condition or missing interrupt.
My network service stops working, if I do sudo ifconfig eth0 down and
then sudo ifconfig eth0 up it cures it for a while.
What triggers the problem are high speed data transfers (over the LAN).
If I use scp with -l 10000 I can't trigger the problem.
A couple of times my computer froze completely when waiting for a big
download (Knoppix DVD) to finish.
So, I'm afraid it is not fixed.
