Public bug reported:

I ran the Hardy upgrade tool last night and found a couple of message
boxes waiting for me when i checked the PC this morning (10 hours or so
later). One of the message boxes took me through to launchpad and raised
this bug. The terminal area showed several failures to flush log data to
files that have become invalid in some way.
