Binary package hint: gnome-panel
When I go to "Appearance" --> "Visual effects" then I usually have
"Normal" effects checkmarked. But the checkmark does not stay! When I go
out of the menu and back later, none of the items is checkmarked. (Even
though I think the system is using "Normal" but the checkmark is simply
gone.)
