I've added the repositories listed in the first link but, as you say, I have a dependency problem and I'm not sure how to get round it - I don't understand when you say 'select the first option (which does not uninstall ubuntu-desktop)'. :-/
I ran sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0-dbgsym gdb and it says that gdb is at the latest level but that: The following packages have unmet dependencies. firefox-3.0-dbgsym: Depends: firefox-3.0 (= 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) but 3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 is to be installed E: Broken packages I have the newest version of firefox-3.0 Can you tell me what I need to do to resolve the dependency and I'll get the backtrace?
