I DISABLED ACPI AND REMOVED 'QUIET' FROM THE KERNEL LINE. AND USED A USB
CONNECTION FROM THE MODEM. I AM GLAD TO REPORT THAT THIS HAS WORKED. IN SHORT
MY ETHERNET RTL 8139 WAS NOT BEING RECOGNISED BY HARDY 8.04. NOW I AM GETTING
INTERNET WITH KERNEL 2.6.24.21
