Compiling and installing a newer version of dmraid is not enough for the newer dmraid to help your system boot. You need to generate a new initramfs to include the new dmraid executable.
If I get time in the coming days, I will make an rc15 package for you to test. For now, I'll consider re-enabling the patch, as no Ubuntu users have reported having issues with this patch, and you're the first one who has reported having a problem with this patch disabled.
