I think it would be best to fix the two main crashes too: bug #274970
when syslog isn't installed/running, and bug #276331 when /etc and
tmpdir aren't on the same partition. These are uncommon, but should be
nicely supported, and are probably not too hard to fix/workaround
quickly, even in the intrepid timeframe.
