Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: evolution
1) Open evolution;
2) Select Inbox (if not already selected);
3) Click on an e-mail to show it in preview window;
4) Hit Ctrl-A to select all messages in the folder and preview window goes
blank;
5) Click back on the e-mail previously selected in step 3;
What I expect to happen:
6) E-mail should be selected and shown in preview window like normal;
What happens instead:
6) E-mail is selected, but nothing shows in preview window;
To get e-mail to show:
7) Select another e-mail (it will show up in preview window), then select the
original e-mail & it finally is shown.
This only happens when selecting the same e-mail in step 5 as in step 3.
If a second e-mail, not the one selected in step 3, is selected, it will show
up in the preview window just fine.
---Bug ends here!---
Personal note: This happens to me quite frequently, as Ctrl-Shift-X is
completely unnatural to select all text in an e-mail, and I always hit
Ctrl-A. I have to select all text if I want to read my mail, since I am
using a modified Darklooks theme. So, when stupid e-mail creators don't
change their font colors when they change background colors, I have to
pay for it with my eyes. (If you change bg to white, then PLEASE change
font to black - jeez! Not everyone uses white bg with black text by
default!)
Attachment:
As you can see in the image, the e-mail sender has changed the bg to white, but
has not changed the text color. This means that Evolution uses the default text
color, which is meant for a dark bg. Therefore, I can't see jack!
Isn't there a way to compare two colors, determine their delta, and
change the colors if they are too close to one another?
Or, as a simple/not comprehensive fix, have an Evolution option so that
the default/system colors will NOT be used if the e-mail is formatted
for a WHITE background?
Similar problem:
This happens with Firefox control boxes too. If the website creator specifies
black font with white bg (like most do), instead of leaving fonts at client's
default, I see black font on a dark grey/blackish bg. Websites can't/don't
change the bgcolor of a control box (like the Attachment & Description boxes I
see below) and it creates conflicts. The control boxes should be the color of
the bgcolor, not an impossible to override system color. But, since they can't
be changed, then why can the text color be changed? This is moronic: Let's let
the creator change the text color, but not the bg color! Yeah, screw the users!
Luckily, sites like this don't mess with the colors, and I see my
white/silvery text on the grey/blackish bg!
Imagine how frustrating it is filling out job applications and
completing online tests when you can't see what is being typed into the
input box!
