I haven't seen a fix for this bug, but you can make it work. It didn't work with 7.x either. What I have found with my T60 is this:
The Thinkpad wireless LED does not work with Ubuntu. Don't let this throw you. It is on if the switch is on, the LED just doesn't work. I use WPA2 encryption. Every time I boot into Ubuntu I find that it has reverted to WPA. I have to manually change it to WPA2 and copy/paste the encryption key in order to get it to connect. If you still have problems check the syslog. Also try "ifconfig wlan0". If you are still having problems send me the relevant syslog messages and the output of the ifconfig command.
