you were running

file-roller --default-dir=file:///home/username/Pictures --add
file:///home/username/Pictures/P8190318.JPG

which results in a crash for you, however this is working for me with an
up-to-date ubuntu hardy. Can you please check if this is still an issue
for you?

my version of file-roller:
dpkg -l file-roller
