It would be good if someone with more experience than me could look into this. I needed this patch myself so I went through the process of patching the Ubuntu source package with the changes from Debian. The patch applies cleanly. I was able to create binaries for Intrepid, but as I said, I have never created a package before. The steps to create the package in Ubuntu are written up at http://www.svenkreiss.com/wbxml_patch_for_Ubuntu_Intrepid and I also posted links to the binaries I created (but this is not the right way).
After installing the patched package of wbxml, I was able to sync a brand new Nokia phone (no other sources than Intrepid required).
