Yes I 'repaired' it by uninstalling in "add/remove programs" - but strangely 
(?) it only seemed to remove the last download !?  really weird ... but wtf it 
now works again , normally!!
try it you never know ... might work?

osfast:  I have the same problem as stated above.  I'm running Hardy and
FF3.0.3.  I can launch Firefox from terminal and it does bring
everything back but only when I launch from terminal.  When I launch
from the menu, it's still broken.

I am noticing the same other symptoms as you.  Did you find a way to
make the fix work outside terminal?
