We need some further details. Which Ubuntu release are you using? You
said it started "recently", what changed at this time? Are you using
proposed updates? Did you recently change your graphics driver? Did you
try this on multiple machines (since you mentioned both ATI and nvidia)?
This is neither a compiz nor a jockey problem, might be a regression in
the new kernel or a new nvidia driver.
