I followed the instructions from mangouste06 and niclone above and now have functional wireless on an MSI Wind U100 with an rtl8187se / 8199. I am able to join WPA networks.
However, nm-applet doesn't detect the wireless being turned off and sometimes tries to connect to networks it is no longer in the range of (after suspend and resume).
