There are multiple missing linkd in /usr/lib32 in the x86_64 version of Kubuntu
8.04.
Some examples of the links I had to create to have my 32 bit apps correctly
compiled:
libX11.so -> libX11.so.6
libXmu.so -> libXmu.so.6
....
there are multiple others.
