I have answered that MD5 hashes were checked and correct.
One big(?) correction here.

I checked hashes of all Ubuntu CDs but NOT that of Kubuntu CD
as I made it in haste while in chaos of Ubuntu. So I checked
it after installed and happily working.
However, its hash is different from any in UbuntuHashes page.
My hash is
8172d563057e289242be185b74a8381e
different from the listed hash of Kubuntu 8.04.1 -i386.
Does this information mean anything to you? Was there
any iso image of this checksum, even for very short period?

Another report.
I connected my cockpit directly, without using KVM switch,
to the computer but the symptom remains same.

Yet another report.
I again downloaded and burned CD of Ubuntu 8.04.1 desktop i386
-ja (Japanese localized edition). The burner, K3b reports
"track1 differs from original" *but* the hash is as it
should be. Maybe a false report. Anyway this does not
lead us anywhere. That CD shows the same symptom.

In the meantime, I ordered a book which comes with a DVD
containing Ubuntu 8.04 (or 8.04.1) Japanese localized.
I can try it today or tomorrow upon delivery.
Just another trial without much hope.

Thanking you,
Sabby
