** Description changed: Board is able to boot only if I specify in kernel boot option: 'irqpoll'. Thereafter, lost interrrupts errors are reported and other "confused devices" messages are logged in dmesg. The system seems to work, but not fully and certainly with significantly impacted performance. I am dying to move away from Windows 2000 to Ubuntu Linux on this system (my main workstation). Unfortunately I cannot afford buying another system now. + Steps to repeat: + 1. Build a PC based on the P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard with the following storage: + /dev/sda - 160GB HDD (master in the single channel in the Promise 20387 controller). + /dev/hda - DVDRW (master in 1st IDE channel on Intel's ICH5R) + /dev/hdb - CDRW (slave in 1st IDE channel on Intel's ICH5R) + /dev/hdc - DVDR (master in 2nd IDE channel on Intel's ICH5R) + 2. Attempt to run the Ubuntu 6.0.6 live CD on it. + 3. It will fail soon after the welcome screen. + 4. Specify the 'irqpoll' kernel option boot and try again. + 5. This time it will succeed. Click the 'Install to HDD' desktop icon. It will install successfully. + 6. Reboot. The system will come up, but with the sluggish performance and the dmesg indicating the causes for the error(s). + Thanks! Alex
