I grabbed the latest files from 
http://freehg.org/u/honeyplanet/pidgin-audacious and compiled them to make
 /usr/lib/pidgin/pidgin-audacious3.so

After launching Audacious I unselected pidgin-audacious2.so and selected
pidgin-audacious3.so.

Then to make it work I had to change my status to Away which gave me a
box to type in.

I typed in %song and it works nicely now
