Sorry for the long silence. I never installed restricted-modules, so it seems
like it can't be that:
$ dpkg -l linux* | grep 2.6.27
un linux-doc-2.6.27 <none>

$ dpkg -l *restricted-modules* | grep 2.6.27
<no output>
Might I be missing some required packages?
I just tried the beta live CD. I only booted once, but graphical boot
was successful.
