As far as I know, it remains an issue.  I have complied with all 
requests for information.  Including the last one.  When the next 
release comes out, I will give it a try and then, if the problem 
remains, will re-submit the bug report.

I believe this problem impacts a large number of older laptops.  Most 
people that encounter the bug probably just throw up their hands and 
say "Ubuntu just doesn't work!".  I've used Ubuntu for a number of 
years and find that it is common for newer releases to drop previously 
supported hardware.  Read through the history of this bug report and 
you will understand why many are reluctant to report bugs.
