The DNS part has started working again for me now, both the search domain and the server is correctly added to /etc/resolv.conf.
If you only need VPN access to a certain number of networks you can work around the bug by going to IPv4 Settings -> Routes... in the VPN connection editor (this _only_ works in GNOME's applet, which could be considered another bug). I've been unable to add 0.0.0.0/0 as a route there (it doesn't save it), but other routes with longer prefixes seems to work fine.
