According to log, acpid is isntalled:
Setting up acpid (1.0.6-9ubuntu2) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/init.d/acpid ...
* Loading ACPI modules...
...done.
* Starting ACPI services...
...done.
and acpid is marked as recommended, so it will be installed by default
in Intrepid.
Can you send us the result of:
apt-cache policy acpid
apt-cache policy powersaved
