I may be wrong here since I'm not familiar with how OOo is compiled, but 'Automatic' should mean 'whatever is present if all other themes are removed'. In this case, if Crystal is the only icon theme present it should be showing it as long as the icon selector is set to 'Automatic' (which it is by default).
