I only have the Ubuntu OpenOffice.org. What do you need me to do to try
the alternative?

Getting an instance of a font of this sorts costs about $25, is there no
expenses fund that could buy this for you? I would have thought
Canonical should have a fund to enable maintainers to undertake tests
for this sort of blocking bug.

And I must reemphasize this is a blocking bug: the OOo font handling is
not allowing me to use fonts that render fine in Gnome. I assume OOo
has its own font handling rather than using the Gnome one (because is
need to be platform independent.

Let me know what you need me to try and I will see if I can do the
needed experiments.
