I gave a try to "sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.1_i386.deb"
and it seamed to work without all_generic_ide. But I was unable to set the
right resolution for my Dell 2005FPW flat screen. So I reverted to previous
kernel using all_generic_ide
I use 8.04 LTS freshly updated, XP dual boot, with 2 SATA disk and an external
USB.

I did not notice a loss of performance using all_generic_ide. Is this
really a problem ?

Thanks
