Just got another update to kernel "2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Oct 14
18:40:44 UTC 2008", which seems to solve the issue. My ext3 partition is
accessible again.
I switched the bug status to "Fix Released". Hope that is the correct
status to close the bug...
