** Summary changed:
- Intrepid beta - Many websites refuse to load
+ NM Manager 0.7 doesn't automatically apply correct MTU setting
** Description changed:
I just installed the Intrepid beta and I cannot load many websites that
other computers on my home network have no trouble loading (including
one computer running Hardy 8.04).
- Also, I had no trouble with Hardy on this laptop.
+ UPDATE:
+ Websites load correctly after applying the correct MTU size manually:
+ sudo /sbin/ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492
- I'm using OpenDNS, so I don't think it is a DNS issue. I've tried many
- things over the last few days, to no avail. I have a rather detailed
- ubuntuforums post (user jonathanmotes) where I describe everything I've
- tried, but I cannot access it now. I was able to access ubuntuforums
- until I created a new Firefox profile, as the Ubuntu Firefox bugs page
- said to do.
-
- Most of the time, the browser just waits for a response from a website,
- but never receives one. However, some sites hang up on the "transferring
- data" stage.
-
- Some things I've tried:
- disabling ipv6 DNS
- disabling ufw firefall
- using wired and wireless connections
- tried other browsers (Epiphany, Galeon, Opera)
- tried using a proxy
- changing MTU id
-
- Some of the websites I've consistently had trouble with over the past few
days:
- linuxtoday.com - no response
- lifehacker.com - no response
- cnet.com - no response
- myspace.com - hangs on transferring data
-
-
- Others that *sometimes* do not work include:
- youtube.com
- amazon.com
- ubuntuforums.org
-
- I know this is a difficult bug to replicate, but please don't disregard
- it as a problem on my network. Hardy 8.04 has no trouble with these
- websites...
+ My router's (Netgear WGR614) MTU size is set to 1492. Manually applying
+ a size of 1492 bytes or lower solves the problem.
This is my first Ubuntu bug filing, so please let me know if I'm missing
something.
