Public bug reported:

Because of a bug in nozomi module for 64bit system in Ubuntu 8.04's
kernels I've waited for Ubuntu 8.10 to use my Option 3G+ PCMCIA card
(T-Mobile card, O2 Germany SIM card, card works on Windows).

Now, the card is recognized right and the module initializes complete. I've
tested it in one of the alpha releases (sorry, can't remember which one) and it
works with vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux and umtsmon (means, it
was recognized...). I'm using the Ubuntu 8.10 beta now and the network-manager
let me configure an UMTS connection. But I can't use the card for surfing.
Everytime I want to start the connection, the network manager prompts me the
message "Connection was closed" (sorry, don't know "real" english message cause
I use the German edition). If I try it with
vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux or umtsmon, the tools messages
that they can't use the /dev/noz0 device.
The device is available, the user is in dialout group - but also started as
root the tools can't use the device!

Here is a snippet from syslog, belonging to card initializing:
