You have been subscribed to a public bug by Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand):

I felt I needed to abort an 8.04LTS installation during the manual
editing of the / and /home partitions. For some reason (maybe my finger
slipped on the keyboard), I seem to have gotten into a resize operation
of the /home partition whereas all I wanted to do was to mark it as
"/home".

Upon restarting the machine for a renewed attempt at installation, there
appeared a message that the partition would be resized to 15% and that
there was no way out of this. Scared the dickens out of me!

Then, trying to reinstall 6.04 instead, it would not even begin to
reinstall!

Obviously there is a dangerous piece of Ubuntu code on my harddrive and
I feel compelled to save the contents of this drive on my double-boot
machine. Lots of work! I am sorry to say that this experience has badly
shaken my faith in Ubuntu.

Best,

Henry8
