Ah, so the desktop defines the 'Automatic' icon theme.  Interesting.

I fully understand, but I think that function should belong to the
'Default' option, and 'Automatic' should select the next icon theme in
the list if the default were not present (as the failsafe).  To be
honest, perhaps OOo should have this failsafe active by default no
matter which option is chosen.  Better than having no icons at all if
the selected icon theme is not installed or bugged for some reason.

The 'Automatic' option may be useful to the people packaging the
software so they don't have to compile/package more than one version of
OOo but for the user it's almost a pointless option unless they have
both desktops installed, switch between then often, use OOo often, and
are obsessed with matching icon themes.

Well, changing OOo's behaviour like this is likely something only the
OOo developers can do and isn't something Canonical can control.  Still,
I wanted to get all of that off my chest :)
