It works fine for me with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 8.10 and I don't see how you are using that version if you are running Kubuntu 8.04.1 since it would be 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 (notice the 1 vs 11).
