this is actually a bug in the ffmpeg package.
can someone please check if this is somehow reproducable?
Jason, in your case, please try the following commands:
/usr/bin/vlc /media/cdrom0/Torchwood\ S02E08\ A\ Day\ In\ The\ Death\
[Xvid].avi
and
/usr/bin/ffmpeg /media/cdrom0/Torchwood\ S02E08\ A\ Day\ In\ The\ Death\
[Xvid].avi
(make sure that you have the ffmpeg package installed).
