The statically linked cdparanoia 10.2 binary from xiph.org works fine me. So it seems an update will fix some people having problems with cdparanoia(I found some bug in launchpad which had similar problems to mine #106000)
Another problem with 10.0 is that it doesn't handle in-drive caching. Most modern drives use this. Using cdparanoia 10.0 defeats the purpose of using cdparanoia on these drives.
