Thanks for looking into this. I recently tested the "Install" boot option on the Ubuntu 8.10 Beta CD, and it works fine. I retested with the Kubuntu 8.10 Beta CD just to be sure, and it's definitely broken. The background is all black and the Ubiquity window, while decorated, is empty. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace gets me into the livecd desktop environment I would have ended up in if I had gone with the "Try without installing" boot option.
