I just came across this problem when trying to set a mount point. There
seem to be 3 underlying problems, fixing any one of which would fix
this:

a) the "properties > volume" tab accepts invalid mount options which may seem
quite valid (for example a mount point of "/media/mystorage" is invalid and
should be entered simply as "mystorage")
b) the "properties > volume" tab cannot be accessed while a volume is
unmounted, leaving invalid options unfixable
c) the error message given does not give any indication of how to fix the
problem.

For anyone else with this problem, you can change the mount options
manually by running "gconf-editor" and navigating to "System > Storage >
Volumes".
