As I wrote earlier, no need to build it yourself, you can use the binaries from
my ppa at:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~lool/+archive
where I pushed version 0.5.1 of libv4l which should help for skype support.
I'm waiting for feedback on improvements for skype to second the FFE in
bug #286070.
