Hi, I haven't needed a "find and replace in multiple files" feature lately, so it wasn't really an issue. But I just checked (i.e., opened around 400 source files in anjuta and applied find and replace in all open buffers) and things went OK, with no anjuta freeze and no x-server crash.
My Ubuntu version is 8.04 (kernel 2.6.24-21)... I cannot help you testing this issue in the beta of Intrepid, at this time ---the network and video cards issues make it unusable. J.W.M.
