Hrm, I'm curious if this is maybe an issue with usplash since you
mention booting in recovery mode works. Care to do a few tests. First,
update to the most recent 2.6.27-7.12 kernel. Verify this is still an
issue. If so, can you try removing the 'quiet' and 'splash' boot
options and confirm if the issue is resolved or not? If it is still an
issue, then can you take a digital photo of the messages logged to the
screen prior to the hang and attach it to this bug report as well as the
output of 'sudo lspci -vvnn' . Thanks.
