Found the culprit: An extraneous cdrom entry in fstab for the /dev/sdb1 device. After commenting out the line from /etc/fstab, the automounting worked.
** Description changed: On Edgy, clean install. Strangely, the same stick works on another laptop, also running Edgy, that had a clean install of Edgy Beta(?) upgraded. + + pmount fails, but sudo mount works. ** Attachment added: "fstab" http://librarian.launchpad.net/5076412/fstab -- USB memory stick not automounted https://launchpad.net/bugs/71896 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
