Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

X sometimes crashes at random. I get a console for a few seconds then it
starts up again to the gdm login window.

This is what the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file reports about the crash,
everything priror to this has to do with the X startup.
