Public bug reported:

Hi all...

Update manager fails to update grub. It seems that a error in update-
grub caused this task to never finish.

The result is /boot/grub/menu.lst containing several GB of space. All
with repeated entries.

I had to kill this process to let the system continue updating.
Resulting in a fault boot.

Also, I have to fill a bug in grub because a BIG file in menu.lst cause
grub to corrupt. In this case grub will not recognize the disks and will
also not show the very first entries of the file. Will only show bogus
strange characters without meaning...

The fix to let Ubuntu boot is to edit by hand the menu.lst to hold only a few
entries and remove the rest.

This is a huge bug because causes ubuntu to become unusable.
